EvenLED sells ‘hello to Berlin’16 February 2009
The EvenLEDs for the SAP conference, which was staged at the ICC Berlin, were supplied by London-based White Light. The event called for lighting designer Glyn Peregrine to negotiate one specific problem: “The scenic design for the conferences required a solid block of colour under a video front-projection screen. When I saw the EvenLED on the White Light website it appeared to me to be the ideal solution. Sight-unseen I decided to give it a try and frankly it was fantastic!”
This aspect of the design was lit using a 2m (H) x 14m (W) EvenLED grid behind a rear-projection screen. A second set of EvenLED panels was deployed in a more decorative manner for a concert by Steve Winwood that followed the main conference proceedings.
Alongside the EvenLEDs, the rig also included six Martin MAC 2000 Performance units, 16 MAC2000 Wash fixtures, 28 Vari-Lite VL3500s, two 8-Lites, 20 Showtec Sunstrips and 24 Par64s. Control was provided by a Whole Hog 3 console programmed by Jean-Pascal Alouges and supplied by Neumann & Muller, which also provided lighting fixtures and crew.
Lighting designer Rob Halliday – who became one of the first users of EvenLED when he took the system on a UK tour of Mary Poppins – told II: “EvenLED is a unique product designed to do one task – lighting cyclorama-type cloths – and do it extremely well. The possibilities it offers are unbeatable, its incredibly smooth fade quality is unmatched. After using it, it’s hard to go back to lighting cycs in any other way.”
