Elaborate AV fit-out for forthcoming AMG venue31 March 2008
The audio specification was supplied and installed by ADLIB Audio and, in the main room, is based around a Nexo Geo D sound system, comprising nine Geo D10 elements per side and complemented by Nexo S2 subs. In addition, more than 40 peripheral speakers, all manufactured by ADLIB, have been positioned around the room.
Power comes from a combination of Camco V6s and Crown I-Tech and XT amplifiers, while processing is via Soundweb London. Martin Audio and ADLIB units dominate the monitor rig. Two Soundcraft Vi6 digital consoles provide control in the main room.
ADLIB also equipped the DJ booths, specifying Technics 1210s turntables, Pioneer CDJ 1000 MK3s and Allen & Heath 3D or Xone 92 mixers.
The lighting fit-out saw AMG working in conjunction with Bristol-based Utopium. In the main room, the specification includes eight Robe ColorSpot 700E ATs, eight Robe ColorWash 575E AT Zooms and four Martin Atomic Strobes, among many other fixtures. Control is provided by Avolites Pearl Experts (main room) and one Avolites Pearl Tiger (Carling Academy 2 Sheffield).
Finally, installation of the video system saw AMG working with Dimension Audio’s Scott Wakelin and included the specification of 6m and 3m drop-down screens, used in conjunction with Sanyo projectors and high-resolution 3-chip cameras.
In other news, AMG has recently invested _50,000 in a new lighting and PA upgrade at its Carling Academy Islington venue. The project included the purchase of a Digidesign D-Show Profile and Mix Rack, and a Pro Tools HD2 system from HD Pro Audio, a new company headed by former Marquee Audio digital specialist Andy Huffer.
“The sound quality of the Profile is excellent, [while] Mix Rack not only offers us a small footprint but is easy to use with analogue multicore,” said Ed Jackson, newly promoted to the role of group technical manager for AMG. “The recording facilities that we now have to offer all artists who play the Academy means huge promotional advantages. This also has huge benefits for TV production as the Digidesign facility can provide high quality recording as part of the venue hire – bands can just set up a gig as normal and simply press a button on Pro Tools.”
