Systems integrator Snelling Business Systems has installed a large dnp Supernova high-grade optical screen at the new Julian Study Centre at the University of East Anglia (UEA), UK.

The screen has been installed into the centre’s 280-seat theatre, bringing the university’s total number of Infinity screens to two. Both screens were supplied by Paradigm AV, the Danish company’s UK distributors.

“Having worked with the university for over a decade, we have created a standardised room specification in conjunction with the customer,” commented Snelling Sales Manager, Steve Royans. “Following the success of the multi-award winning Thomas Payne Study Centre, the dnp Infinity is now standard for large prestigious spaces, with screens sized to comply with industry requirements and the new PISCR standards.

The project specification was for a 3,760mm x 2,350mm screen using 08:85 low-gain screen material to run in conjunction with a Panasonic WUXGA projector. A 08:85 gain material was necessary to meet the theatre’s new design, which incorporates a tiered and square shape.

“With such a wide auditorium, optimum off axis viewing was essential and this offered us improved contrast levels, as the theatre is used for film screening with 7.2 THX audio,” said Royans. “The material is ISF certified which defines the very highest quality of displays.”

Paradigm AV supported the installation by reviewing and approving the initial theatre design based on the screen/projection parameters, and defined measures within the space to ensure colour/brightness uniformity.

The Julian Study Centre, which opened to students in December 2013, is the latest addition to the campus and is the first aiming for a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ accreditation.
