Davos hockey stadium modernises with EAW

The Vaillant Arena in Davos – the Swiss city perhaps best-known for its annual hosting of the World Economic Forum – has been equipped with a new audio system devised by locally-based company Phil’s Concert and Showtechnique GmbH.

The sound company was enlisted to replace the venue’s old hybrid system with a new specification, which is based around EAW components. With a central cluster rendered unfeasible by the presence of a central cluster, Phil’s Concert and Showtechnique ultimately pressed forward with a 12-cluster, 42-speaker configuration of EAW JFL210 compact line array loudspeakers. Each JFL210 is driven full-range by its own amp channel.

In addition, the icefield itself is covered by a further MK2396 full-range trapezoidal speakers, which have been integrated into the lighting system.

Set-up and tuning of the whole system was undertaken by Samuel Wild from Dr. W.A. Günther AudioSystems AG, Harry Horlacher from Swiss EAW representative GoWild AG, and Phil Benesch, owner of Phil’s Concert & Showtechnique.

The system has already been utilised during Spengler Cup and 2010-11 hockey season, when the stadium’s home team, HC Davos, won its 30th national title.
