Consys and Bosch help with a bit of a bash

test 5 May 2006

The 22nd World Congress of the International Union of Architects (UIA) was held in Istanbul in July 2005, attended by 8,000 members and associates.

The highlight of this six-day event was the opening ceremony, located outdoors in a 10,000 sq m amphitheatre. Bosch and Consys, an Istanbul based audiovisual rental company, provided the simultaneous-interpretation service between five languages, available to the 6,000 strong crowd.

Not only did the expected crowd and the multiple-language distribution requirement pose a challenge. There were also concerns that extreme summer temperatures and glaring daylight could cause the outdoor equipment to malfunction.

“This was the very first event where this system was used outdoors in the summer sun. Thankfully, it worked very well”, says Mikail Basoglu, marketing manager at Consys, who are also a member of Bosch’s world-wide Congress Rental Network.

The core audio-visual facility deployed was the Bosch Integrus Digital Infrared Simultaneous Interpretation System. Integrus is the world’s first fully digital infrared language distribution system designed for open-air use wherever simultaneous interpretation is required. It has a selection of 32 channels and is immune to interference from bright sunlight or ambient lighting.

Some 3500 IR receivers were used during the opening ceremony for handling the five languages. For the voting event, 150 Digital Congress Network (DCN) microphones were deployed as well as 350 voting units and five Integrus systems for simultaneous interpretation.
