CEDIA launches assisted living event

Paddy Baker 22 May 2012

CEDIA is running a new Smart Assisted Living event to help professionals tap into the business opportunity for home technology within the assisted living sector. Targeted at custom installers, architects and design professionals, this free-to-attend half-day event takes place at RIBA’s HQ, 66 Portland Place, London on Tuesday 19 June.

“A growing sector of the population face long-term health issues,” says Matt Dodd, CEDIA’s education chair. “Integrated home technology has the potential to significantly improve the quality of life for people. This half-day event will explore the challenges and the opportunities and also take an in-depth look at how integrated technology can help bring dignity and independence to people in assisted living homes.”

The programme begins with CEDIA’s RIBA accredited Designing Integrated Future-Ready Homes course, which will help delegates understand the thinking and fundamental design principles behind an integrated home scheme. Then, Paul Doyle, head of ACCESS research and development at Hereward College will lead a session entitled Opportunities in Assisted Living. Doyle will demonstrate how intuitive design and assistive technology can improve the quality of life, wellbeing and autonomy of individuals, and be delivered in effective, scalable and affordable ways.
