Cars as green as smart buildings

If a key goal of the smart home and the intelligent building is to conserve valuable energy resources and contribute to a healthier environment, the same is no less true for automotive manufacturer Tesla, which is exhibiting at ISE for the
first time.

Tesla says that its goal is to accelerate the world’s transition to electric mobility with a full range of increasingly affordable electric cars, catalysing a change in the automotive industry.

The company believes that transitioning the world to electric mobility depends on efficient vehicle technology, convenient charging solutions and sustainable energy sources, along with storage solutions for intermittent energy.

On show – and attracting significant interest – on Tesla’s ISE 2017 stand are its Model S, which the company says is is the fastest and safest sedan in its class, and which accelerates from 0 to 60mph in as little as 2.5s, and the seven-seat SUV.

Both are said to have the longest range of any electric car – and both benefit from continuous in-service improvement through over-the-air software updates.

Tesla notes that its Powerwall technology works together with solar panels to use the endless power of the sun and to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, saving up solar energy during the day to use at night. Together with the residential solar panels Powerwall and Model S/X, Tesla claims it offers a total solution for only using sustainable energy.
