Boston Acoustics unveils new tabletop music system

test 13 January 2010

The Duo-i Plus represents a development of Boston Acoustics’ original compact dock and radio design, writes David Davies. New amplification circuitry and an electrical layout that has been revised to gain ‘Works with iPhone’ certification are among the Duo i-Plus’s notable features.

The new launch – which is said to offer “dramatically reduced” standby power consumption – also delivers “significantly improved sound quality”.

Priced at £200, the Duo-i Plus employs two Boston Acoustics 3.5in drive units, BassTrac processing and a self-damping ABS curved cabinet construction.

There are four colour variations for the white or black cabinet, while it is also possible to lend a personal touch via Boston Acoustics’ Personal Options Plan (POP). Speaker grilles can be swapped with a variety of colour variations, including Glacier Light Blue, Chili Pepper Red, Rose Bud Pink and Spanish Moss Light Green.

The specification is rounded out by front-mounted 3.5mm sockets for MP3 in and headphone out, rearmounted line level RCA phone input and outputs, a composite video output, and a magnetised remote control.

Boston Acoustics Europe’s general manager, Rainer Finck, told IE Residential: “With the Duo-i Plus, Boston Acoustics has expanded its respected tabletop range with an enhanced dock which is now compatible with the iPhone. Both technically and acoustically it has been considerably improved. From a design point of view, the product is now available in high gloss black and high gloss white which answers the current increased market demand for these finishes.”
