Barco provides projection solutions for drilling simulator dome7 September 2015
Barco has collaborated with Norwegian-based integrator Cyviz to produce an 8m (diameter) drilling simulation dome using 12 Barco F12 WUXGA projectors at MHWirth’s newest office in Geoje, South Korea.
The Barco projectors produce a high-resolution simulation for operators to practice intricate drilling setups and MHWirth has worked with Cyviz for a number of years to provide training for its operators.
The dome creates an authentic experience of critical drilling operations and permits training of operators in a controlled environment.
Having successfully collaborated with Barco on numerous projects in the past, Cyviz deployed 12 of Barco’s F12 WUXGA projectors to deliver an immersive simulation experience. Specifically designed for 24/7 operation in demanding environments also has an 8,000 hour lifetime, equal to a year of non-stop operation, which limits the required maintenance.
“The projection system had to be resilient to vibrations from heavy traffic and industrial activity from neighboring businesses”, said Mikkjal Poulsen, country manager South Korea at MHWirth. “The same, high demands were placed on image reliability, brightness and contrast to produce a realistic training experience. The lightweight, yet robust and high-performing F12 series by Barco were exactly what we needed to pull off this impressive project.”
Espen Olsen, director of sales simulation Europe at Barco commented: “The new dome will be an essential part of MHWirth’s South Korean operations for many years to come. We are extremely proud to have gotten the opportunity to work together with Cyviz on this challenging project. I am convinced that the projection system has set a new standard, both when it comes to performance and total cost of ownership.”
