VIDEO: A masterclass in projection mapping set for ISE 2018

ISE is extending its footprint beyond the RAI, thanks to its involvement in the World Masters of Projection Mapping competition.

Organised by ISE in partnership with Amsterdam Light Festival and RAI, the competition sees five internationally renowned video artists project their work onto the irregular geometrically shaped façade of the EYE Filmmuseum, next to the River IJ.

The works by the finalists – Alida Dors and Manuel Rodrigues, Eder Santos, Florian and Michael Quistrebert, Geert Mul, and Telcosystems – has been showing on daily rotation since 12 January.

On Thursday evening, all five entries will be shown to the public, as well as to the judging panel. For those who would like a vantage point on the water – which those in the know say is the best place to see the projections – boat trips are being organised by competition partner Artifex. These will leave from the RAI shortly after the exhibition closes. A range of on-board hospitality packages is available – see the ISE website for more details. Alternatively, the projections can be seen from in front of Central Station or from the Amsterdam Tower.

Technical partners that have supplied equipment for the World Masters of Projection Mapping are Panasonic, disguise (formerly d3 Technologies), Lightware and Alcons Audio, while integrator BeamSystems is responsible for AV installation for the competition. Turn to page 28 to read more about the Panasonic projectors that are being used to beam these high-resolution images.

Lennart Booij, creative director of Amsterdam Light Festival, leads the judging for the World Masters of Projection Mapping. The winner will be revealed at a special awards ceremony at ISE on Friday at 12:30 in the Forum – just after blooloopLIVE at ISE finishes (see below). The ceremony will also see the finalists present their entries, discuss their inspirations, and talk about the production techniques they have used.
