Asian Games provides major showcase for Riedel

Riedel Communications installed a comprehensive communications system for the latest edition of the Asian Games, which took place in Guangzhou, China, towards the end of last year.

In addition to providing the venue communication system, Riedel supplied the intercom for the opening and closing ceremonies – a combination of wired and wireless technologies.

The system for the ceremonies – which were held at a new, purpose-built venue – was based around a Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom system comprising two mainframes connected via fiber, approximately 20 Artist 1000 series control panels and some 75 Performer digital partyline beltpacks.

For communications infrastructure, Riedel provided Performer digital partyline systems and more than 600 beltpacks. The company also handled the installation of the analogue radio network that was integrated into the wired infrastructure via RiFace interfaces. Specifically, the radio network that covered the opening and closing ceremonies comprised 16 semi-duplex channels for 720 conventional Motorola radios, while five FM transmitters were used to address the 8,000 radio receivers at the events.

In addition, a Riedel RockNet installation provided audio routing over fiber at the opening and closing ceremonies with a set-up of ten RockNet 300 input and output modules and four RockNet fiber converters.

Richard Serschen, rental project manager at Riedel Communications, told IE Residential: "Opening and closing ceremonies are always a really demanding task as there is absolutely no room for failure. Thanks to the elaborate redundancy concept in Riedel’s Artist digital matrix intercom system, [we had] the operational reliability we needed for this event."
