Allen & Heath GLD audio mixer installed in Rio’s Maracana football stadium20 June 2013
An Allen & Heath GLD audio mixer has been installed in the Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. One of the most renowned stadiums in South America, the venue hosted the FIFA World Cup in 1950, at whose final it drew a record paid attendance of 199,854, and will host the same event in 2014 (although its capacity today is a more modest 78,838). It will also host as the final games of the 2013 Confederations Cup.
Recently reopening following a major three-year major renovation, the stadium now includes a GLD-80 mixer at the heart of an EV sound system distributed via a Dante network.
“The main reason we chose GLD was because of Allen & Heath’s fantastic sound quality, reliability and ease of use,” explained Augusto Bergamim, sound manager and system programmer at the Maracana.
The stadium reopened with a friendly match featuring star players Ronaldo and Bebeto, and has since hosted a friendly between the national sides of Brazil and England.
The GLD-80 is fitted with a Dante network card and controls audio distribution around the entire stadium through fibre optic cables.
