Adamson SpekTrix system stars in new Busan Cinema Centre

Situated in South Korea’s Haeundae District, the newly developed Dureraum facility (the Busan Cinema Centre), which over the years has hosted Korea’s Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), has been equipped with an Adamson SpekTrix system. Designed by Austrian architectual design firm Coop Himmelblau and Heerim Architects & Planners of Korea, the center is composed of three buildings – Cinema Mountain, PIFF Hill and Double Cone. The buildings ‘super-sized’ roof is its crowing feature, with the underside of the 163 x 61m (535 x 200ft) structure clad with a series of LED screens incorporating 127,800 LED lights. Cinema Mountain, standing nine stories high, accommodates the multipurpose performing arts hall comprising the 841-seat Haneulyeon Theatre or ‘open Sky Theatre’. Design and installation of this inner-facility venue was handled by Kang-dong Media in Busan with sound design support provided by Adamson’s Korean distributor Sound Solution. Adamson’s applications engineer, Ewan McDonald, was also flown in to take charge of the tuning process. The theatre’s main system consists of nine SpekTrix 3-way enclosures hung below four SpekTrix double 18in subwoofers, with a 3 SpekTrix W 15º box underhang placed at left and right of the main screen and stage.  The center cluster features seven SpekTrix with two SpekTrix W underhang. Elsewhere four SX subs have been placed on the ground, and are mobile. In addition, 12 pcs of Point 8’s supply fills were fitted on the balconies, and four M15 monitors are used on the stage.  All the Adamson speakers are powered by Lab.gruppen  FP10000Q, FP6000Q’s and FP4000’s, while processing is handled by XTA DP products. What’s more a DiGiCo SD7 now sits as the FOH mixing console in the theater. Applications engineer Ewan MacDonald describes the results: “The team at Sound Solution did a very professional job with this installation in what is a world class facility. After some time was spent commissioning the system, we ended up with a very nice sounding system with no more than +/-0.5 dB variation (A weighted SPL) throughout the floor and the mid balcony, which was a testament to the great work the design team at Sound Solution do.”
